Mercury in Pisces Musings

In Pisces, Mercury sings its wistful song of spring, aching with anticipation. The other day, I´ve heard the birds sing for the first time and it seemed out of place as the temperatures are definitely on the winter side yet. I always feel like the birds are confused somehow at this time of year but obviously, they are a lot better aligned with the natural cycles than I am. 

 



The expected rationality of Mercury is diffused in Pisces. There is no room for cold argumentation. Rather it is about feeling your way through, articulating something that cannot be grasped, described, or measured. You “know” deep inside and that is all that matters.

The sign of Pisces - Jupiter feminine, fertile domicile, Venus exaltation, the energy that is conducive for life, growth, and prosperity. Thinking about this time of the year, the abundance of animal babies came to my mind. The light increases and the temperature rises. The warmer days and regular rainfall mean that grass grows well and the food is becoming plentiful. 
Jupiter and Venus, both benefics, are naturally bringing things and people together. They are both more about what connects us rather than what sets us apart.  And the connection is really what is a necessary prerequisite for proliferation, isn’t it?
As a Hellenistic astrologer Antiochus explains, pleasurable, Venusian experiences are naturally opposed to intellectual matters: 

„And where the appetitive and pleasurable is exalted, there the intellect is depressed.“

Mercury and Venus naturally have a bit different agenda. It is necessary to suppress your rational self to fully enjoy any sensual experience. And that is what lies at the heart of Mercury’s challenging position in the sign of Pisces. 


To FALL IN LOVE.

How beautifully is this archetype expressed in our human experience?
We “fall” for someone, let our guard down, our emotions cloud our judgment, we are simply fully immersed “in love”, and we don’t care what others think.
