Delayed Satisfaction - Capricorn ♑

Astrologically, January is connected with the sign of Capricorn, the home sign of the planet Saturn.

Imagine a countryside in winter. Fields lie bare after harvest, and the ground is frozen. The trees stand bare without their leaves, with their branches exposed. It feels quieter, the nature is resting. There are fewer colors, and their shades are muted. There are fewer distractions. Capricorn season represents a contracting energy that is pulling us inwards, making us look at where we’re putting our energy, what we’re managing and building in our lives, and what structural support we have available. 

Capricorn is concerned with time and effort. Saturn, the ruler of Capricorn, won't hand you anything on a golden platter; you need to work for it. It is about a long-term vision and the discipline necessary to carry out mundane tasks to achieve your goals.

Capricorn doesn't look for instant gratification. It is about staying power and long-term commitment.  Capricorn will challenge you and test your limits.

Saturn, the ruler of Capricorn, represents slowness that allows for better focus and meaningful connection with what we deeply care about. Saturn represents maturity that brings self-mastery and wisdom that comes with experience and old age.

It is hard to imagine now, but winter used to be about mere survival. Saturn in the earthy sign of Capricorn is like a well-built cellar filled with properly stored food supply that carries you through a harsh winter.

This time of the year, we can ask ourselves:

There is lots of initiation and activation in the element of earth right now.

January feels like a big reset. It feels like a new beginning that is firmly grounded in our previous experience. This big pile-up of planets in Capricorn feels like we’re gathering our mental, emotional, and physical resources to create and build things in our lives that have lasting value, things that will stand the test of time. Capricorn is a pragmatic, no-nonsense sign. We want to make sure that the effort we put in over and over again is well invested.

This time is not just about planning for the future. We might also be harvesting the fruits of our labor. We might be seeing a significant closure or a result of a long cycle in our intimate relationships, career, or whatever topic Capricorn represents in our charts.

These are Capricorn gifts of delayed satisfaction, gifts of our previous labor and effort, gifts for which we had to sacrifice in order to achieve a bigger goal that we value and that brings us long-term fulfillment.

Sacrifice doesn’t have to be about suffering and martyrdom. The literal meaning of this word is "to make holy" or "to do something sacred". Sacrifice is about giving our full attention to things we love, tending to them daily, and watching them grow like precious flowers in our secret garden.
