The Golden Canon
Venus has entered a fiery, masculine temple of the Sun King. As the Sun, she is rising, embodying the diurnal quality of the Sun, tending the eternal fire.
In ancient astrology, the Sun is rejoicing in the 9th house, the house of God. The Sun represents immortal light, the divine principle, the connection with that which transcends our material reality. Sun was also called the noetic light, that which illuminates (us).
Illumination comes from the Latin root illuminationem - "to throw into light, make bright, light up". Sun King brings us both intellectual and spiritual enlightenment. The element of fire, being closest to the Spirit, carries an innate need to express the eternal light, to create.
Upon entering the King´s temple, Venus is becoming a radiant vessel of the heavens. Venus might be witnessed in the sweetness of devotion, the adornment of sacred places and in tending the altars.
Christian art of manuscript illumination represents a sacred merging of Sun and Venus symbolism.
For over a thousand years, scribes and later artists embellished the sacred texts. These illuminated manuscripts were treasured for more than their material value. They gained the status of gifts worthy of saints and kings.
In these manuscripts, the art was in service of divine interpretation. The use of images was encouraged to bring sacred texts closer to illiterates who were reading the message of the divine through images.
When thinking about these gorgeous works of art, we can see Sun God shining through their pages as the most luxurious codices were often enhanced through the use of gold ink or gold leaf. Due to the technology used, these spectacular images stay, to this day, untarnished, still shining, centuries after they were created. The legacy of Sun King lives on.
For this very same reason, these magnificent works of art are now described as ‘illuminated’. The use of gold expresses both their precious value and the divine inspiration.
As medieval scribes and artists, this Venus season we are called to inspire and illuminate others through magnetic self-expression, to radiate things that are precious to our hearts and to pour gold lightness all around us.
Keep hope alive, keep dreaming.
