Venus Can Keep Us Stuck

Venus is all about comfort, ease, harmony, living an enjoyable life. So Venus in her domicile or otherwise well placed in a chart can sometimes come with a princess attitude.

Recent reading made me think about the benefics' inhabiting nature, about goodness we take for granted and about an assumption that we are somehow entitled to always have certain privileges.

I remember the beginning of my astrological training with Nightlight Astrology when I analyzed my chart full of planets in detriment, fall, tight squares and overall strong malefic signature. I admit I felt anxious and sorry for myself. I remember my teacher saying that people with challenging placements have often really interesting life stories and have the ability to turn their life around. I wasn’t convinced.

Two years have passed since then and my view of what’s beneficial/malefic has developed quite a bit. I know that our lives reflected by astrological chart are not black and white, there is a great deal of grey in between.

I am cautious when people come to me feeling an intense need to change their life - NOW. I know that in-depth conversation informed by the natal promise of the person is necessary before we look at upcoming transits that might facilitate this change. 

We often desire change and we wish to believe that the change is somewhere, floating in the future and it will come to us when the time is ripe. Yes, the opportunity might come but we must make effort to change things. We must be willing to change ourselves, to do things differently and to sacrifice certain things to open ourselves to new experiences. 

Venus is not very good with sacrifice, it is contrary to her nature, it is Mars’ domain. Venus likes to gain and maintain what she already has, she does not want to let go. People with strong Venus placements tend to maintain the status quo, stay in their comfort zone and enjoy the benefits of their good fortune.

Why would you want to change if you are comfortable enough if things just come to you without effort? It may not be perfect but it's better than being without it, right? Things are just convenient this way. You might feel a need to be more proactive & driven, but it is not enough to make the change. You don’t have enough motivation.

“I am not willing to let this go so I guess I rather give up on this change.”

Venus can keep us stuck. Venus can be dogmatic about her needs, about her standards that she can’t go without. This is just one example when Venus can act like a malefic, symbolically keeping us in a situation that no longer serves us. 

Dissatisfaction, discontent and frustration are not happy feelings but they can be driving forces for change to take root. To make changes in our life, we need enough dissatisfaction with our current conditions. We need willingness to give up comfort and have enough motivation to struggle through the process of change.
