Life as an Art Form - Libra (Venus, Saturn)

 

For many people, including myself, the word Art might sound a bit distant and even intimidating like something really sophisticated that is only meant for a selected few. I feel there is this distinction between “real” art and “art-like activities” that fall into the category of “arts and crafts”. It almost feels like a heresy to think that anybody could be making a (real) Art, be a (real) Artist. But as I’m growing older, my understanding of this word is changing. 

I believe the Art is for the people. I believe Art is available to all of us as Art is about creation, about the expression of oneself. We are the most beautiful and sophisticated art projects of the universe, each of us unique in its expression.

As we’re growing up and gain experiences we learn that the world and people around us often appreciate only certain aspects of ourselves and so we shut the unwanted down. We want to feel loved and so we learn to show our acceptable side. But our aches, pains and frustrations don’t disappear. The unexpressed always finds its way through anger and frustration and other, often damaging tendencies. We are programmed as rational beings and so naturally we’re trying to analyze and look for solutions when we feel uncomfortable. We want to erase the dark spots. We want to fix parts of ourselves to become healthy. 

I believe there is a different way how to feel better without constantly looking for new explanations, feeding ourselves quick solutions that have a temporary impact.The reason is a good servant but a bad master. I believe we can never go wrong engaging our physical and emotional bodies. 

Our body can become a container that allows for the whole story to be told. We can process our emotions and make a beautiful piece of art for ourselves and others. When we get deep into our story, deep in emotion, we can express it without limiting ourselves.

We’ve just embarked on the Libra South Node Eclipse story. It is time to process the old story and let it go. It is time to create a new story. Art is a powerful ally that can help us to do just that. Where do you feel at home in the creative realm? What is your art form?

For me it is dance. The older I get, the more I give into it. It is where I feel safe and truly free. It is where I am not afraid to take a space and the spotlight though I’m frightened of it in my everyday life. It is the place where I feel I can inspire others. It is like the spring that is always overflowing with life, spring I can always come back to.
This year, on my birthday, my natal Sun was eclipsed. A week later I was fortunate enough to dance all my fears, abuse and weakness in front of the audience with four other amazing women in a performance called Intimacies.

For the past month, I’ve been training my part, every morning, right by the university where I work. At first, it was just a drill to feel more skilful and confident but it turned into something more. I was perfecting the form. There is no such thing as perfect form in our sublunary realm. Yes, some people might be more gifted than others but no one can reach the ideal. How do we perfect our form? We have to give our expression our own flavor. We have to mold the form to our personal capabilities. 

Adjusting doesn´t mean we should give up on our own sense of mastery though. Libran ideal gains its peak of perfection through Saturnian effort. Mastery requires repetition, mastery can be achieved through regular practice. Like the spine running through our body providing us with support when walking and moving, a steady, everyday work of art can become our support. When we “know our stuff”, when we have experience, the magic happens. We feel calm and stable. We don´t need to concentrate on the form, how to do things, we can immerse in our emotions and concentrate on the expression itself. It's impossible to do both at the same time. It’s the same with astrology or any other form of art. You need to learn the technical part of the craft first to practice it as an art form. Mastering art skills allows for a really intuitive and creative expression.

My everyday practice did even more for me. I’ve realized I need to actively create a different reality outside of what's orderly and proper. It's not enough to believe. There is a calling within each of us that can’t be put into any box and justified by the reason. There is a wildness that does not need to consume us, wildness can be deeply nourishing. We need to find courage to be fools in front of others. There is always somebody who needs to see „this“, see that this is also possible that there is another way, another alternative. 

Life is not fair, it never was and it won´t ever be. Our personal art can serve as an act of justice and liberation. We need to reclaim our personal freedom. It can´t ever be taken away from us.
