Secret Sisterhood - Virgo&Scorpio
When we look at signs of Virgo and Scorpio through a superficial lens of pop astrology, we might label Virgo as the most predictable, boring sign and Scorpio as the most intense and often the coolest one. When we look deeper though, we can quickly see how much these seemingly complete opposites have in common.
They are both feminine yin signs however they both represent a challenging placement when it comes to traditional feminine topics like love, relationships, pleasure and nurturing.
Virgo and Scorpio are placements where Venus and Moon, the planets that represent these topics, have their fall. Venus also struggles in Scorpio and a great benefic, Jupiter, which is often linked to the proliferation of life and fertility, is in its detriment in Virgo. Venus, Moon and Jupiter in general symbolize conditions that are safe and supportive for life.
Virgo and Scorpio are fall sisters. They share a mysterious bond. They inhabit the time of the solar year when dark feminine energy is rising and the strength and vitality of the sun are decreasing. The days are getting shorter and cooler, life cycle is coming to its end and things are returning back to earth to be decomposed. It is the time of rest when the earth needs to replenish itself.
Feminine energy is not always about growing and harvesting, about hot sunny days and bright blue skies. Feminine also stands for protection and preservation when the environment is not conducive to growth, when life could be easily diminished.
Virgo and Scorpio are guardians of dark spaces, they anticipate the inevitable. They are aware that things might get messy and they are prepared to deal with whatever comes their way. They know that life is as much about light as about darkness. They’re seeking light through exploration of the darkness. There is no way around it. They are used to making difficult choices that’s how they get through life.
Virgo and Scorpio can’t be tamed. They represent the dark feminine energy. Deconstructive, decomposing energy is part of their nature as they’re true to their rulers - Mercury and Mars. To argue and to sever. They are both equipped with weapons of different strength - ♍ sickle and ♏ stinger. They are often caught in the middle of conflict. They are messengers of inconvenient truths. They tend to cause disagreement but it is not their intention to cause distress or harm.
They want to understand what’s at the root of the problem, what’s not working, what’s malfunctioning. And so they take things apart, they probe and penetrate. They look for what's real and pure. They seek the essence of things like the herbal essence that is extracted from the bulk of plant material through the distillation process.
Virgo and Scorpio control and scan their environment. They look for what does not belong, what does not support the whole, what hinders, and what could potentially threaten the vulnerability of life itself. Virgo separates and disposes, sometimes even cuts off what’s not required, what's no longer viable. Scorpio goes even further. Scorpio probes and, if necessary, injects a little bit of deadly venom.
Virgo purifies what constantly seeps from the environment removing imperfections. Scorpio purges and seeks intense catharsis to remove what’s stagnant and toxic.
As feminine signs, Virgo and Scorpio are process-oriented. They are natural healers and their healing takes time. Sometimes things need to get worse before they get better. They go by saying: “It’s always dark before the dawn and the hurt precedes the healing process.”
Virgo and Scorpio share a secret sisterhood. They are bound by Venusian sextile. They’re always looking out for each other. They are not your stereotypical sweet, easygoing characters. They rather look for “trouble”. They are not interested in fluff, they want the real thing.
Understanding Virgo and Scorpio energies through an astrological lens helped me understand that I am not broken, that this is also what feminine means even though the world around us paints a different picture.
Keep hope alive, keep dreaming.
